I live amongst designers, dreamers, and doers. I love fashion and everything it encompasses.

Summer minded

I'm in midst of planning a brunch or dinner party for when we finish decorating the new apartment. Guests are invited to bring as much wine as possible as a housewarming gift.

Guests are also encouraged to wear nothing but Chanel.

just kidding.

A little picnic party inspiration-

I love the boat neckline as well as the cap sleeves. The nautical theme is overdone but the off the shoulder style gives this seaside staple a creative, edgy feel so it's not just another white and navy striped t-shirt.

The Angolmania Dress by Vivienne Westwood in Heather Grey. AMAZING. I know. !
I love the gathered fabric above the chest and at the hip. I love it's oversized, unfitted design. I'd try a belt with it too.

This is not a shout out to Bloomingdales OR Marc Jacobs

I'm getting closer and closer to paying off my credit card and I MUST say there are a "few" items that I plan on building my new bill with...guilty feeling setting in NOW.

Photobucket
The Layered Jersey Tank Dress- Marc by Marc Jacobs $138

Cotton + Synthetic = Craze Amaze. The blend of these two create the most
comfortable and attractive fabric. Jersey knit is wonderful to wear and also sleep in(i.e. Target has the BEST Jersey Sheets in a variety colors!!)
I found this dress at Bloomingdales and plan to add it to my wardrobe as soon as possible. Besides the blue and pink blend shown above, there is also a grey version with lime green trimming which is perfect for Summer.

Photobucket

This picture does not do the "Lightweight French Terry Romper" any justice. I tried this on at Bloomingdales and was almost tempted to stow it in my purse before leaving(clepto! Not, j/k)But in actuality, this piece has a great fit, and is creatively cut with snaps on the sides and a tie which I prefer to keep in the back, though the picture shows the opposite. Marc by Marc Jacobs, $128.

Photobucket
Ok so maybe I am on a Bloomingdales and Marc kick...honestly I usually don't awe over Marc anything, but I really liked what I found amongst the muck. This "Cheetah Flock" T-Shirt Dress caught my eye immediately. I'd hate to say it's "very me" because I don't like to claim any one style as my own, (I'm proud to consider myself as a connoisseur of the eclectic style)but this really does say "Eileen" all over it. $158.

Photobucket

Pleated "Lafayette" Top $142.50
I love Juliet inspired tops for their comfortability, laid back, romantic appeal, and I loved this one by DVF.

Well, I don't think it's very intelligent to keep an electrical gadget on the edge of the tub.

I have to tell you something...
"What is it?"
I love you.
"I love you, too."

I'd be very happy soaking in a bathtub all day, and having a long fur coat be the staple of my wardrobe. This calls for 2 things- a trip to Lush, and a move to New York as soon as possible.

And now, wine.

Lately I've been trying to distinguish between my love of slouchy, over-sized clothing because I simply like the look, and my love of slouchy, over-sized clothing due to it "appearing" to make me look or feel "skinny".

By the direction fashion trends have now taken most clothing is over-sized, or appears to be, so from one perspective I'd say I've adopted the look simply by following the trend and keeping it eternally as the basis of my wardrobe. But from another perspective, I think of the over-sized apparel look as something that has been adopted by the idea that "skinny" is the only way to be, especially in fashion. And as I said earlier, clothing "appears to be" over-sized, due to the incredibly under-weight models wearing the styles that encompass every magazine and Bravo/Mtv show.

In the past Matt has mentioned that I buy clothes that are too big for me. And it's strange because I never saw it that way. But lately I've realized that he's right, in many occasions, and then I think about how the fashion industry really DOES skew a person's body image, therefore leaving a person with body dysmorphic disorder, and a fucked up sense of what is reality and what is a mind game. Of course the fashion industry is not all to blame. As they say, nurture vs. nature is what one considers in a situation like this. And to me, nurture plays a huge part in who and what a person becomes, and how they react to their environment. But at the same time, the industry isn't helping matters, that's for sure.

What's even worse is that some incredibly sucky people in the fashion world who are definitely under weight, and intentionally so, are playing role model to vulnerable girls. For instance, Rachel Zoe, who most definitely gets an A+ in sucking, stars in her own T.V. show, and looks like a bobble head. Also, Nicole Richie lost loads of weight and was the wallpaper on my sister's phone for over a year, inspiring her too "get skinny". What happened to role models like Mother Theresa? She never influenced anyone into having a hate/love relationship with a mirror. I'll never understand it, and it's something I've been battling with for a good portion of my life. But at least I'm not Nicole Richie. Who could have sex with a member of Good Charlotte anyway? Gross.

I want to name my child Royal

I love this poem by Emily Dickinson-

The nearest dream recedes- unrealized -
The Heaven we chase,
Like the June Bee- before the School Boy,
Invites the race-
Stoops- to an easy Clover-
Dips- evades- teases- deploys-
Then- to the Royal Clouds
Lifts his light Pinnace-
Heedless of the Boy-
Staring - bewildered - at the mocking sky -

Mixed Prints

Another trend that I've been loving forever is mixing prints that are in no way related to each other. After visiting NYtimes.com/fashionandstyle I checked out some pictures they had posted of readers dressed in their best mixed styles. I stole a few right off the site...eeepppp.

I forgot to mention that I've been mixing prints for years. Obvi I'm already cooler than these people. Or maybe I'm just an ugly betty counterpart.

Photobucket
I haven't really tried getting involved with flannel yet. The relationship seems a bit too complicated for me...but after seeing this picture, I'll try it. And the fur? yes please.
Photobucket
I love this chick's rotten expression. It really cracks me up. She looks like she ate a little too much Chinese food and was then told that she had to pose for the NY times. Yikes. But anyway, although I'm not a huge fan of yellow, I enjoy the cut of her blouse and the polka dots, and cardigans are always great.

Photobucket
This picture is great. This girl reminds me of an attic smelling cat lady. God I'm such a bitch. No but not in a bad way, in a really comfortable, chic kind of way. If that makes sense. I LOVE her scarf, with it's 80's inspired tribal print, and her oversized flannel that makes me want to go to Goodwill right this minute and hunt for one. The colors are crazy awesome. I never wear brown but if I found this I'd buy it immediately and wear it with black leggings like so. Oh and her shoes are pretty rad too. I think my dad has some like these, actually I'm positive he does.

Tory Jackets are the snooze button to a hungover day

Welll helloo...
I've been neglecting posting lately so I'm breaking the silence now with this post(it is long overdue). Let's get right to the topic of "new" trends this season seeing as how they are all I have been thinking about. Duh.
I've been looking through some sites all day and after glancing through loads of lookbooks and legwork, a few adjectives come to mind. Some, however, left an "eww...really?!" look adopted by a frown(gahhhhhhggggg) and eyebrow raise on my face. Others left me wondering how much mullah I can possibly spend on these new fads once I hit the streets of New Yawkkkk in May. Woohoo let the impulsive buying/compulsive finally-good-food-eating begin. !

Gahhhh I love edgy jackets. I don't wear them usually just because Florida is so effing hot but I love the look anyway.
I visited Tory Burch the other day while on break at Betsey and I discovered these amazing jackets:

Tory Burch Luv
This jacket is hawt ! The "Tory Burch Magnus Jacket" is one of my favorite pieces right now and not just because it looks fabulous. I love the "single button" design, and paired with conflicting prints like the scarf in this pic, the look is complete.

Tory Burch Luv
Ahhh The "Anders Jacket". This jacket is the sunshine of daily life. The green tea to a sour stomach, the dark chocolate square to a small paycheck. It is made of white leather and is composed of miny cut-out hearts. Awghhhh. It kills me. It sounds tacky and super Austin Powers from the explanation, but if you get a chance to venture to Tory make sure to stop and take a look at it, and feels it's texture.

Lots & Lots

My sister came to visit me for 4 days and we had the best time. Ever!

We drank around-the-world at Epcot, visited Daytona beach and enjoyed delicious sushi, watched "Wedding Crashers"(a classic), drank many different kinds of beer, shopped at XXI and H&M, thrift stores and Whole Foods, made a fantastic dinner of Shrimp & Pasta(compliments of Allie), and we visited at Betsey Johnson. Not to mention we did many of these activities a bit tipsy. It was a whirlwind of a 4 day staycation and I wish it wasn't over!

I have many photos of us gallivanting and laughing our asses off, but I wanted to reference a few other images of people and things that remind me of our time together.

I is key

Prance on those keys
one step farther away
from the collected assumptions that
give us
our pen names.

I'd rather throw this
personae
to a band of gypsies
starved for freedom,
of love-making beads
and debauchery.

They'd wear it with debonair
while what's left
of me- rooted
in all embankments alike
submerged in a sea of monotony
monogamy

Prance on those keys
Pounce on them.
We are cat and mouse
And I am the cheese.

Equestrian Inspired

I went through an "I love horses!!!" stage when I was in 5th-6th grade and I wheedled my way to taking English Horseback riding classes. My mom almost allowed me to lease a horse. Damn, I was good.
Photobucket
My riding pants were definitely not Hermes, but when I found these I wanted mine back so I could rock them without feeling bowlegged every Wednesday and Friday. Not to mention my riding boots were amazing too. I've had average sized/wide feet since I can remember(ok, maybe they're a little bigger than average for a woman of my height, but we'll pretend the latter)and I am pretty sure I could still fit into them if I tried. Too bad I did not realize they'd be in style once again, or that I would want to wear them for something other than learning to canter.

Photobucket
That's more like it. I am tempted to purchase these. They're $250...I know I could find a vintage pair that aren't Hermes for cheaper, BUT they're Hermes!!!

Flowers & Sunlight

I took a few photos today while getting ready for work. I'm wearing my Betsey flower tank with some cut up jeans, red flats and loads of bangles.
Photobucket

Please ignore the streaky mirror. Along with the dirty bedroom that technically doesn't belong to me. You could call me a couch surfer, a gypsy, a renegade. OK, ok, I'm usually the one to dirty up this room. But I'm a chick, so it's acceptable, right? Too many clothes, too little time. That's my motto. Matt puts up with it(I mean, he has no choice :D)

Photobucket

This one is my favorite. Please forgive the cliché arm pose. I feel awkward trying to "model" in the first place, and I have a hard time trying to figure out where to place my arms. I've decided that I can be an extremely awkward person. But anyway, I like how the shadows are captured in this photo from the sunlight streaming in from the right. I bought the earrings in San Diego at a thrift shop.

Photobucket

Inspirations that make me a wide eyed wannabe them

I love photographers that capture street style and I found this amazing spread on Style.com. Here are a few of my favorite pictures taken by Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil fame in Paris. I love to use these photos for inspiration for what I'd like to do in the future (and buy!). I intend to make fashion photography one of my hobbies once I have my internship and learn how to use cameras for professional use.

Photobucket
I titled this photo "jackettodiefor" in my Photobucket album and I think it's the perfect description. This jacket really is amazing, with it's zipper and button textures, rich grey color, high collar and longer in front-shorter in back design. So chic.!

Photobucket

When I saw this photo I was speechless. I think it speaks for itself. The dress is incredible, and the purse reminds me of Proenza Shouler's Spring 2010 line. It has this surfery feel without being too "bro-ha". But the preeminent pieces of this outfit are the boots. I am a huge Harry Potter nerd and any boots that have the slouchy, sorting hat feel are a must for me. The texture is so intricate with the zippers, buttons and snaps, and I know that these boots would have this wonderfully expensive rich leather smell. Not to mention the length is fantastic, I've been wanting a pair of edgy thigh highs forever.

Photobucket

Props to the sorting hat :)

Next Favorite-
Photobucket
I love white blondes and I am one so you could say I am a bit biased in picking this picture to post as a favorite. But besides the punky blonde hair, I love the tan/peachy colored jacket. It's truly an art piece. I'll have to look for one like that at H&M. The t-shirt is quirky and cute and paired with the jacket, it is super fashionable and classy. The girls' sunglasses are incredibly cute and have this 1960's feel, and the slouchy, oversized grey sweater is fabulous. Red Lipstick is ALWAYS in with me.

Ok that's all for now, I have some more to post later. <3

Sketching Novice

I bought colored pencils and a sketchbook yesterday, finally! Now I can stop the anxiety over all these prints that I have in mind and transfer them on paper where they belong(well, actually they belong in a showroom...but, a girl can dream/must dream!) God I sound as though I'm actually a designer, shit, I can't even sew. And I just spelled "sew" like "sow". Sad. BUTTTT I can now convert an idea into an image, or try too....

I started a few sketches today of a cream or yellow colored feathered skirt and a purple billowy silk sweatshirt combo. My style is a compilation of American Apparel dance inspired basics with couture loop back sweatshirts and sweatpants, chic studded ribbing and feathery, pubescent skirts. I like to combine conflicting textures and fabrics, like silk, sweatshirt fleece and lycra.
This a my first sketch-
Photobucket
I love turqoise lycra tights with tutu inspired skirts. This skirt would be feathery, soft and either cream colored or pale yellow. I also love big hair. In this month's Teen Vogue there is a fantastic 8 page spread called "Toy Soldier". Kate Kosushkinda is the model in the spread and she is posing as a lifesize doll with HUGE hairsprayed hair with ribbons weaved through it and gigantic, messy princess laia buns. I'm obsessed! Here is the spread.

Photobucket
I'm going to try and mimic the big hair tomorrow before work. I have to be careful not to appear too avant garde because the regional manager will be visiting and I have strict orders from Dangerous Debs to "behave myself."

This style should suffice I think?

Colleen Atwood- Costume Designer

iAlice in Wonderland/i Costumer Colleen Atwood: 'It's Going To Be Amazing'

I was browsing more Alice and Wonderland sites online and I came across this article about the designer of the costumes from the new movie. Her name is Colleen Atwood and she is amazing! She has a rediculous resume designing costumes for actors like Johnny Depp in many of his movies like Pirates of the Carribean, and Edward Scissorhands and also the costumes for Nine and Public Enemies. She is also close friends with Tim Burton. Talk about lucky! I love costume design and I'm going to do some more research on it.

No money for food, but for nailpolish!

I know I haven't posted lately...rats. I've been bored with fashion magazines lately, so I like to search for inpriation in other outlets. Today it's nailpolish....=)

I bought some new colors today. Generally I like matte finishes with pastel colors, but now and then I'll add some texture with a sparkle top coat.

This is one I bought today- "Light As Air" by China Glaze
Photobucket

Photobucket
I've been looking for a color like this forever. I love purples, lavenders, and greys and this was the perfect combination.

I also bought "Moon Over Mumbai" by OPI and "Basket Case" by Orly. I LOVE Moon because it's another cloudy grey color with a hint of purple, and Basket Case is a bright candy pink that reminds me of summer and climbing trees in upstate New York.

This is Moon Over Mumbai-

Photobucket
It sort of looks like Light As Air in the picture, but it is really different. Here is another picture I found-
Photobucket
It's a really romantic, pretty shade of grey.

Basket Case-

This is a really fun color, and it's perfect for welcoming Spring's arrival. Be back later Xo

Edie Free

My email address reads "ee die free", but in actuality it’s referring to Edie Sedgwick and my first name.
I put Edie in the same category as Michael Jackson, and among other celebrities who never had a genuine and youthful childhood. Sadly, due to this reason Edie and Michael both lived stolen lives. I've always been inspired by Edie. Her style, her youthful and effervescent personality, and her "it-girl' originality have always harbored my affection. She always seemed to be dancing through life, although she lived a tragic one.
